To Birkenstock or Not?

To Birken (stock) or not that is the question.  When I first started writing this post my answer to this question was definitely not...but then I started looking at outfits for a hot or not post and I seriously couldn't find any pictures that I didn't like.  So I hate to say it but I think I kind of want to get a pair now.

Plus, I know these shoes are like the most comfortable thing ever - I did used to wear them in high school a lot.  I didn't really think that fashion could get more comfortable than the wedge sneaker but clearly I was wrong.

I'm not going to lie but they are really ugly by themselves but when paired with a simple outfit they look adorable and make the outfit look chic.   A week ago, I didn't want anything to do with this shoes but now I kind of want them in every color and style...it's kind of a problem.

  1. My husband has been grinning from ear to ear now that they've been showing up everywhere. He's been saving "lookbook" pages that feature them to show me how fashionable he was in high school (?!?) I still think I have a ways to go before I come around to them...especially with socks! Would love to see how you style them though! xo

  3. I am not a fan... even the trendier ones with the thinner straps or metallic leather still seem kind of ugly. Of course my boyfriend would love for me to jump on this trend, and even threatened to buy me a pair for my birthday!

What do you think, will you pull the trigger and get them?

  4. I have to agree when I first saw them I was kind of not sure about them! But as I keep seeing them they are starting to grow on me! I saw an embellished pair at TJMaxx the other day that were so cute and now I am kind of kicking myself for not getting them!

  9. That first gold pair is a little better... but I am just not a fan. I'm kind of hoping this fad moves along sooner rather than later.

  10. I think if I were younger, I'd embrace this trend. But, I'm pretty sure I'd look ridiculous at this stage of my life! Appreciate your twenties!!

  12. If I didn't have such a long foot, I would wear them. They seem great for your feet. But mine would like boats in them. HAHAHA

  20. Good question. I was thinking the same... For me it is a no go. But that doesn't mean someone else can look totally great and trendy in them. I appreciate lots of styles.

They must be very comfortable though.. Great post, love these topics with some interaction :D

I'm not sure if I could get behind birkenstocks, I grew up in marin county, so birkenstocks remind me of dirty old hippies. But when styled right they look amazing!

  22. Go for it!! I've been on the fence too, but now with the plethora of affordable knockoffs, I think I'll buy a pair :)

  24. I have been feeling so conflicted about this resurgence of Birkenstocks! I am so glad you posted this! I think I would be super picky about which ones I would wear - I do like the white ones and the silver ones!

  25. I used to wear these in high school so it's a little weird (at first) to see them back but hey so are overalls so what the heck! I am actually saying yes to them too but does it sound nerdy to say I want to wear them for the foot support? xo-Elaine

  29. I think this is the prime example of our eye getting used to something after being exposed to it so much. While repulsive and puzzling at first, the more we see it, the better it gets and we just end up liking it in the end. I know these aren't for everyone, but personally love the style for the summer!
